Welcome to ADDoration Ministries!
2 Corinthians 12:9 "but he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.' So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me."
ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) persons -- Jesus loves us very much. The Lord created ADD persons for a special reason. Positive traits with ADD include enthusiasm, empathy, feel things deeply, spontaneity, energy, creativity, inventiveness, and see things from a unique perspective. These traits are just what the Lord needs, in his ministry to fellow believers and to reach out to non-believers. The ADD person often is receptive to other people's special needs. ADD people often get carried away and become God's special servants. Jesus said in Sermon on the Mount, "Let your light shine."
Throughout, this web site, whenever I mention ADD, I mean also ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
God does not view ADD as being any disorder. Instead, God created ADD persons differently, because every human being was created differently. I thank God that each human is different. The ADD label is man made. The secular world's view is that deviations from the norm are labeled as disorders.
Scripture says that God created various handicapped persons for a purpose. John 9:2-3, His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God's works might be revealed in him."
Mozart, Beethoven, Franz Schubert (composer of "Ave Maria"), Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Edgar Allan Poe, George Bernard Shaw, Walt Disney, Stephen Collins Foster, Frank Lloyd Wright, Benjamin Franklin, Mark Twain, and the disciple Simon Peter all had traits of ADD.
ADD is a neurological handicap. The ADD mind is like a TV set that keeps changing channels. To focus is a problem. Sometimes they hyperfocus instead. Getting act together is difficult. They are distractible, impulsive, impatient, with low tolerance for frustration. Listening can be a problem. Some daydream a lot. Some are hyperactive. Self-esteem is poor. Alcohol or drug abuse is often part of the problem. Although your disorder causes obstacles, you still are entitled to the free gift of grace.
"Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal." ~ Albert Camus
Decades ago, they recognized ADD in children, but they thought that child would outgrow it. Today authorities say "Not So" as for outgrowing it. It is a lifetime challenge.
ADDoration Ministries also serves persons of other disorders, because diagnosis doesn't make all that much difference, as far as Jesus's love. Labels don't matter. For one thing, the categories blend: ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder), and LD (Learning Disabled). Also autism, Asbergers Syndrome, bipolar, and nervous disorders have similarities. Let's include alcoholism too. Maybe ADD means "Any Doggone Disorder." BTW, we are not talking about treatments. Actually the spiritual needs of disordered persons is about the same as with so-called normal persons; however disordered persons have the spiritual needs to a greater extent. Regardless, God loves you. God knows your inner workings, as per Psalm 139.
Regardless -- our awesome God sent us Jesus, who sacrificed himself on the cross, to buy our pardon. God provides grace, as a free gift, to justify you, regardless of merit.
Jesus reached out to outcasts, such as tax collectors and harlots.
We pray for the Lord to help you take advantage of the positive characteristics of your disorder. We pray for the Lord to guide you in working around the obstacles to grace of your disorder. ADDoration Ministries can only make suggestions and give you positive thoughts to dwell on. The foremost thing you ought to do is worship at a local church, of a denomination of your choice. If you are in a 12 step program, we hope to encourage you in the steps that are relevant to the higher power.
ADDoration Ministries is non-denominational. It doesn't matter whether you are United Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Lutheran, Reformed, Baptist, United Church of Christ, Roman Catholic, or whatever.
Thank you for visiting the web site of ADDoration Ministries. I encourage you to check out the various buttons to click on this web site. I especially encourage you to download a booklet, Scriptures That Especially Speak To Me, which is a collection of scriptures (and it's downloadable in either PC or Mac format).
Please bookmark this site and check back again periodically. I plan to be adding more writings, in the future. Also I might be revising what I have written -- especially as I grow more in my walk with Jesus. Once a book is printed, that's it, but a web site can be revised.
<*(((>< your ADD brother in the Risen Christ,
For a history of ADD, click here. As long ago as 1902, impulsiveness was recognized as a medical condition. The diagnosis label changed several times during the 20th century. A 1937 breakthrough was when Dr. Charles Bradley began prescribing stimulants for ADD children. The ADD label came along about 1980.
